“Whenever you have trouble getting up in the morning, remind yourself that you’ve been made by nature for the purpose of working with others, whereas even unthinking animals share sleeping. And it’s our own natural purpose that is more fitting and more satisfying.” — Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 8.12

Our Western culture would have us forget this as its primary focus is individualism, but in fact, we are social creatures.

We are born into a family and are members of communities.

We have a role to play within both the family and the communities.

We are needed to participate.

As parents, it is important that our children know they also have a role. They are active participants in the family and the communities they are part of.

When they don’t do their part, it affects everyone else.

Being part of the team is rewarding at the soul level and it keeps our mental health ticking along at a good pace.

We are Made for Working Together the way jigsaw puzzle pieces come together to show us the big picture.
